On the afternoon of April 21st, 2015, the MacArthur Foundation Research Network on an Aging Society unveiled the specially-themed issue of the journal Daedalus —the academic journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences—comprising essays written by Network members. National leaders in aging engaged in an important discussion of the policy recommendations detailed in the Daedalus essays.
This policy-focused discussion featured a welcome address by John W. Rowe, MD, Columbia University, on the opportunities and challenges facing an aging society, and an overview of key demographic trends by S. Jay Olshansky, PhD, University of Illinois. Panel discussions explored significant issues including productivity in an aging society, societal cohesion, and intergenerational relationships.
